login problem.. authenticating issue

when i attempt to login with the correct IP address and the username "root" and Password "alpine" i get this...

i uninstalled and reinstalled openssh thinking that it may default the password and work. i nistall afc2add... and now i dont know what else to try. any help would be appreciated.
