Usernames with forward slash (/) not supported in batch mode

when scripting from the commandline, usernames with a forwardslash give the following error:
"Can't Resolve Hostname"

The hostname should be interperted after the "@" not before, and it shouldn't look for a forwardslash.

command being used:
"open ftp://user/name:password@host"

Is there anyway to work around this?
