Sound when finished transfer of file being edited

When locally editing a document from a remote machine, the document is transferred to the remote machine each time the local copy is saved. It would be nice to have an option to play a sound when the transfer is completed, since the WinSCP window usually isn't in view at the time.

While there is already a similar option for regular transfers done through the WinSCP GUI, it doesn't seem to apply to transfers of documents that are being edited.

This feature could be implemented one of two ways. First would be to have the existing sound notification option also apply to locally edited document transfers. This would be the simplest and would work for me personally. Second would be to include a separate sound notification option, since some people might want sound for one but not the other kinds of transfers, or might want different sounds, eg; very loud sound for large foreground transfers that you might walk away from, and less annoying sounds for locally edited file transfers, since you're obviously sitting right there.

Meanwhile, you have an option to minimize WinSCP window to system tray. WinSCP will then popup notification balloon, whenever transfer queue is empty (so whenever upload from editor finishes, unless you have another long parallel transfer in progress).

It is nice to have a sound when finishing file transfer, since winscp cannot be set minimum automatically after the double click on the file for editing!

For whatever reason, the systray icon isn't doing anything for me when I'm uploading. Using Vista.

A sound would be perfect, and is what Transmit has gotten me used to on OS X.

Seems like setting WinSCP to make a sound when it finishes work that takes longer than 0 seconds should've done the trick, though it doesn't.

If you enable balloon notifications, you'll be notified when transfer queue in completed.

+1 for audible feedback upon completion of any uploads (including those automatically uploaded after editing in my external editor). This would be immensely useful!

BTW, I noticed a "Beep when work finished, if lasted more than [X] seconds" setting in the "Environment" section of the preferences, under "Notifications" which is where the system tray balloon option is. However, it doesn't actually seem to beep when files are finished uploading (even large ones, let alone small ones, or temp files being edited in an external editor). A simple beep is really all we need though. Seems simple enough.

If WinSCP could include option to playback .wav file upon completion/fail. I presume the beep is system default or internal beeper. Also include with installer basic sounds for complete/fail/connection error.

I also find myself wishing to know exactly when an edited file transfer is done, without having to look. for me, WinSCP is on a remote machine, whose entire desktop is just a window on my local machine. I receive audio though.

ideally I'd be at my browser, ready to load the new upload at the sound of a beep. instead I wait at WinSCP so I can see when it's done, or wait at my browser and guess when to try.

applying work notifications to background transfers would be fine.
adding a separate notification would be good too.
allowing custom .wav files for different scenarios would be great!

p.s. thanks for ending my suffering with that other FTP client :]

You can have WinSCP beep, when queue clears, using Beep when work finishes preference option:

hmm... I have that checked and set to 0 seconds, but I haven't heard the beep before. I assumed setting 0 would include all transfers.

I'm using 5.7.6 (Build 5874) on a Windows 8.1 machine with only 1 playback device. the system volume is up, as is my hardware's volume. I can hear other audio from the same system no problem, so it's not that. WinSCP doesn't even show up in the mixer, and if I understand right, it won't until it plays audio.

I just changed the setting from 0s to 1s, then edited/saved/autoreplaced some larger files (5s transfers), but there were still no beeps. my Transfer > Background setting 'Transfer on background by default' was already checked. I tried 'Display completed transfers in queue for: Never' in case that counts as an 'unclear' queue. I reloaded WinSCP after these changes and tried again, but nothing helped. throughout all of this, my mixer never showed WinSCP.

is there anything else I should try or should I submit a bug report?

If you set the option to 0s and just simply upload a single file on foreground, does it beep?

actually no... so I can't make it beep at all. still no WinSCP in the sound mixer either. I should have thought to try that before. now I'm really stumped.

btw I'm using the portable version, I forgot to say.

shoot! that was it - now background transfers are beeping :]

thank you for your help, and sorry I missed this in the docs...

with all that sorted out, it seems the only feature left on this thread is sound variation per result, so I'll leave my +1 to that. either way, I'm pleased with this :]
