I am getting an Invalid Response to PWD Command when logging into a clients FTP Server. I can successfully login using CuteFTP and can see that the client server is sending the following response to the PWD command

PWD
257 /clocal/ecx/ecx36/data/tmp/65666 is current directory.

I am using WinSCP version 5.5.4 (Build 4433) on a Windows 8 server and connecting via FTP. I am also using the GUI in Commander mode

Please attach a full log file showing the problem (using the latest version of WinSCP).

To generate log file, enable logging, log in to your server and do the operation and only the operation that causes the error. Submit the log with your post as an attachment. Note that passwords and passphrases not stored in the log. You may want to remove other data you consider sensitive though, such as host names, IP addresses, account names or file names (unless they are relevant to the problem). If you do not want to post the log publicly, you can mark the attachment as private.

As per RFC 959, the FTP server is required to enclose the path in double-quotes in response to PWD command:

Quote:
257<space>"<directory-name>"<space><commentary>

See Appendix II in https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc959.txt

Your server violates that by responding:
Quote:
257 /clocal/ecx/ecx36/data/tmp/65666 is current directory

The next version of WinSCP will be able to workaround such buggy servers:
