How to avoid "Could not retrieve directory listing" error in GUI usage on FTP restricted permissions

Can I instruct the GUI not to attempt to list the directory?

This error happens consistently every time I connect to this server.
It happens also with other FTP clients.
My goal is to connect and upload the file without listing the directory. I believe that the server administrator has restricted the permissions such that the directory listing fails.

I want to avoid having the additional steps to clear the dialog box of the error message.

I am willing to script the interaction if that is the only way to avoid the behavior, but I would prefer to continue to "drag and drop" files in the GUI as not all people who perform the procedure are comfortable executing a script.

You cannot have WinSCP not list the remote directory after logging in.

But you can instead create a desktop shortcut to a specific server and folder and have your users drop the files on the shortcut. No file browser will display.
