Could not retrieve directory listing

Hi guys,

I saw several entries with this topic, followed all suggested actions, but none of them actually solved the problem. I'm using version 5.19.5. Any ides?

Here the the error-message full text:
Timeout detected. (data connection)
Could not retrieve directory listing
Error listing directory '/'.
Thank you,

Adi

Re: Could not retrieve directory listing

Can you see the directory contents in any other FTP client?

Please attach a full session log file showing the problem (using the latest version of WinSCP).

To generate the session log file, enable logging, log in to your server and do the operation and only the operation that causes the error. Submit the log with your post as an attachment. Note that passwords and passphrases not stored in the log. You may want to remove other data you consider sensitive though, such as host names, IP addresses, account names or file names (unless they are relevant to the problem). If you do not want to post the log publicly, you can mark the attachment as private.

Tried with FileZilla and the connection fails there too.

Re: reply in response to Martin's response

How do you connect to the server? Is it a local network server or is it over internet? Did you contact the server or network administrator?

Hello Martin,

I’m connecting via Internet to a VPS. Regarding the server administrator – I'm afraid it's me. If you have any suggestion regarding the settings of the server – I'll be happy to apply them.

Re: reply in response to Martin's response

You need to make sure FTP data connections make it through your VPN too, not only the primary FTP control connection.

In general, it's way easier to make SSH/SFTP connections working through complex networks than FTP.
